The gap
ChatGPT has a search in its sidebar (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) that matches words in a chat's title or messages, including archived chats. Its only filters are content types: All, Chats, Images, Documents and Projects. There is no date range, no Questions or Answers filter and no exact-match mode, and the sidebar itself only loads a slice of a long history.
That works when your words are rare. It struggles with the way most people use ChatGPT: a regex it wrote in March, a figure from a long analysis, a phrasing you liked in a draft. Common words match dozens of chats, and with no date, role or exact-match filter you open them one by one to find the right reply.

Type launch and budget under Must include and transaction under Exclude, switch Exact Match on, and the 1,700 messages that mention a launch become the 28 that are about this one. Chips are plain words or phrases; there is nothing to quote or escape.
Role and date
Pick Answers and Past month and a vague query like Q3 marketing budget returns the one reply that holds the allocation table. Questions does the reverse when you want to rebuild a prompt you wrote.
