Claude Student Discount 2026: What Anthropic Offers Students

No, Anthropic does not offer an individual student discount on Claude in 2026: there is no student price, coupon or student plan for Pro or Max on claude.com/pricing, where Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually ($200 up front). Students get Claude at no cost or less in four other ways: a university-sponsored Claude for Education account, the Free plan, the Claude Campus program (with a USD 3,600 stipend), and, for graduate students in a verified research group, the Claude Team plan for scientists (Anthropic, October 2026). US K-12 teachers can get Claude for Teachers free for a year.

This guide covers every route Anthropic documents as of October 25, 2026: how Claude for Education works and how to check whether your university has it, what the Free plan includes, the Campus program for undergraduates, master's and PhD students, the discounted Team plan for research groups, Claude for Teachers, and whether Pro is worth paying for on a student budget. Every term comes from claude.com, anthropic.com and the Claude Help Center, linked in the sources at the end. Where Anthropic publishes no student offer, we say so rather than point you to a discount code.

Does Claude Have a Student Discount?

Not for individuals. Anthropic's pricing page lists the same prices for everyone, and its Help Center has no student offer for Pro or Max. The education pricing Anthropic does publish is for institutions: the "Education plan" on claude.com/pricing is "a comprehensive university-wide plan for an institution, including its students, faculty, and staff," bought by the university, not by you.

Claude planPrice for a studentWhat it adds
Free$0Chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search, memory, file creation and code, Artifacts, up to 5 projects
Pro$20 a month, or $200 a year ($17 a month)More usage, Claude Code, Research, full Projects, more models, Claude in Chrome
MaxFrom $100 a month (5x or 20x Pro usage)Higher output limits, priority access at busy times, $100 to $200 a month in API credits
Education planPaid by your universityUniversity-wide access for students, faculty and staff

Prices are the USD list prices on claude.com/pricing on October 25, 2026, before tax. The only way to pay less than $20 a month for Pro is the annual plan, which saves $40 a year against monthly billing. For the full plan comparison, see our Claude pricing guide.

Claude for Education: Check Your University First

If your university has Claude for Education, you already have a better plan than Pro at no cost: sign in at claude.ai with your university email. Anthropic launched Claude for Education in April 2025 with campus-wide agreements at Northeastern University, the London School of Economics and Champlain College, and the Help Center now has a full section for university-sponsored accounts.

Anthropic's student FAQ lists what a university-sponsored account includes:

  • An enhanced context window for uploading "hundreds of pages of text."
  • Advanced models: "access to the newest, most advanced Claude models."
  • Projects for organizing related conversations with shared knowledge bases.
  • Increased usage limits: "more messages per day compared to individual plans."
  • Priority access during high-traffic periods, and file uploads including PDF, DOCX, CSV, TXT and HTML.

Anthropic notes that "your university may have customized certain features or applied specific policies," so ask your IT department what applies to you. Claude for Education also introduced Learning mode, which Anthropic describes as guiding "students' reasoning process rather than providing answers." The same FAQ asks students to follow their university's academic integrity policies.

Already have a personal Claude account on your university email? Anthropic's admin guide says that when a university turns on single sign-on and adds you, you keep your existing Free or Pro account and can switch between it and the Education account from your profile icon. If you have a personal Pro plan and your university adds Claude for Education, check whether you still need to pay for Pro.

The Claude Campus Program for Students

The Claude Campus program is the one Anthropic route that pays students: each selected student leader receives a USD 3,600 cash stipend. The Claude Campus Ambassadors page Anthropic announced in 2025 now redirects to it, and it has three tracks on claude.com/programs/campus:

  • Undergraduates lead a Claude Builder Club: workshops, hackathons and demo nights, with resources such as API credits to share with members.
  • Master's students lead Claude Campus Conversations, discussion groups on AI and society.
  • PhD students and postdocs lead Claude Science workshops for fellow researchers.

Anthropic says students anywhere can apply, you must be 18 or older with work authorization in your country of study, it is free to apply, and the program runs for a full school year, September 2026 to June 2027. For this year, applications opened September 1 and closed September 12, 2026, so the next chance is the following school year.

Claude Team Plan for Scientists (Graduate Students)

If you work in a university research lab, your principal investigator can get a discounted Claude Team plan and add you to it. Anthropic's Help Center says standard seats are free and Premium seats are $15 per user per month, for 12 months, for verified academic and nonprofit research groups in the natural sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering and related fields. The PI applies and verifies eligibility, then "can add additional group members including postdocs, graduate students, and researchers," with 1 to 25 seats per group.

  • API credits: $20 per standard seat and $100 per Premium seat each month, pooled and capped at $500.
  • Limited places: the discount is "offered to a limited number of groups," and a group with no activity for 90 days may return to standard Team pricing.
  • Check your campus first: Anthropic says the plan is for groups whose institution does not already have a Claude agreement.

Claude for Teachers (US K-12 Educators)

Claude for Teachers is free for verified US K-12 educators, but it is for staff, not students. Anthropic's Help Center says qualifying teachers or organizations that sign up by June 30, 2027 get a full year of free access, including Pro-level features with Claude Code and Claude Cowork, teaching skills for lesson planning, and curriculum mapped to standards in all 50 states. Anthropic does not use those conversations to train its models. Schools and districts can also set up a free Claude Enterprise organization for their teachers.

What the Free Claude Plan Gives Students

For most coursework, the Free plan covers the essentials: chat on every device, web search, memory, file creation and up to 5 projects. claude.com/pricing lists these on Free on October 25, 2026:

  • Chat on web, desktop and mobile, with voice mode and incognito chats.
  • Web search, file creation and code execution, and Artifacts.
  • Memory across conversations and user preferences.
  • Up to 5 projects, which is enough for a project per course in a typical term.
  • Claude Design, Slides and Docs.

What Free does not include: Research, Claude Code, Claude in Chrome and the higher usage of Pro. Usage limits on Free are the tightest of any plan, and our Claude usage limits guide explains how they reset.

Is Claude Pro Worth It for Students?

Pay for Pro only after you have ruled out a university account and hit the Free plan's limits more than once a week. The annual plan, $200 for the year, is the cheapest paid option, but it is charged up front, so it only saves money if you will use Claude through the whole academic year. Monthly Pro at $20 lets you subscribe for exam periods only. If you are comparing assistants, OpenAI's offer of four free ChatGPT Plus months for eligible US students can be claimed until October 31, 2026, as covered in our ChatGPT student discount guide.

Be careful with "Claude student discount codes." Anthropic publishes no promo code on claude.com/pricing or in its Help Center, so codes and cheap "shared Pro accounts" sold elsewhere do not come from Anthropic.

Keep a Semester of Claude Chats Organized

A term of study leaves hundreds of chats in one flat list, and Claude's own search and up to 5 projects on Free only go so far. AI Toolbox (formerly ChatGPT Toolbox) is a Chrome extension that adds organization tools inside claude.ai. It is a separate product with its own free plan and does not change your Claude plan or limits.

Limitations and What Anthropic Does Well

Anthropic's education offers are generous where they apply: a university account beats Pro, the Campus program pays, and the scientists plan makes Team seats free for a lab. The gap is the individual student at a university without an agreement, who gets the same Free plan and the same $20 or $17 Pro price as everyone else. Anthropic does not list which universities have Claude for Education beyond the partners named in its announcements, so the only reliable check is your IT department or signing in with your university email. Offers and prices change, so read claude.com/pricing before you pay for a year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Claude have a student discount?

No. Anthropic does not offer an individual student discount, student price or promo code for Claude Pro or Max in 2026. Pro costs $20 a month, or $17 a month billed annually. Students get Claude through a university Claude for Education account, the Free plan, the Claude Campus program or a lab's Team plan for scientists.

Is Claude free for students?

Claude's Free plan is free for everyone, students included, with chat, web search, memory, file creation and up to 5 projects. If your university has Claude for Education, you get a university-sponsored account with higher usage limits at no cost to you; sign in at claude.ai with your university email to check.

How do I get Claude for Education?

Your university has to buy it; students cannot sign up individually. If your university has an agreement with Anthropic, sign in at claude.ai with your university email, or ask your IT department. Anthropic says universities can customize features and policies, so your IT team can tell you what your account includes.

Is there a Claude Pro student discount code?

No. Anthropic publishes no promo code on claude.com/pricing or in its Help Center. The cheapest way to pay for Pro is the annual plan at $200 a year, which works out to $17 a month. Codes or shared accounts sold by other websites do not come from Anthropic.

Does Claude Code have a student discount?

Not separately. Claude Code is included in Pro and Max, so it follows the same prices: $20 a month or $200 a year for Pro. Graduate students in a verified research group can get a Team plan seat through the Claude Team plan for scientists, and Claude for Education accounts depend on what the university enables.

What is the Claude Campus program?

An Anthropic program for student leaders: undergraduates run Claude Builder Clubs, master's students run Claude Campus Conversations and PhD students run Claude Science workshops. Selected students receive a USD 3,600 stipend. The 2026 to 2027 program runs September to June, and applications closed on September 12, 2026.

Is Claude free for teachers?

For US K-12 educators, yes. Claude for Teachers gives verified teachers, or their school or district, a full year of free access with Pro-level features if they sign up by June 30, 2027. University faculty get Claude through their institution's Claude for Education plan instead.

Bottom Line

There is no Claude student discount to claim at checkout. Check your university's Claude for Education access first, use the Free plan until its limits actually get in your way, and if you do pay, the annual Pro plan at $200 is the cheapest option. Research students should ask their PI about the Team plan for scientists, and student leaders can apply to the Campus program next September.
