What Is in the AI Toolbox Prompt Library?
The Prompt Library is a catalog of expert-written prompts in 12 categories that opens inside ChatGPT. You can search it, switch category, sort by Newest or Most Popular, and click Use Prompt to add a prompt to the message box, after anything you have already typed, or Save Prompt to copy it into your own prompts.
Prompt of the Day
Each category features a different prompt every day, marked "Prompt of the Day" above the grid on the first page when no search is active. It is a daily rotation through the category, a quick way to discover prompts you would not have scrolled to.
Use counts
Once a prompt has been used, its card shows a count such as "128 uses". The count is shared across all AI Toolbox users and all four platforms and goes up when someone clicks Use Prompt, which is what the Most Popular sort ranks by.
Recently used
A "Recently used" row under the search box shows your last 5 library prompts as pills, so a prompt you use every morning is one click away. This list is stored in your browser, so it is per device.
Favorites
A heart on each prompt marks it as a favorite. The free plan holds 3 favorites, and Premium ($9.99/month or $99 lifetime per module) makes them unlimited. Favorites are stored with your AI Toolbox account.
The 12 Prompt Categories
Categories appear in this order in the library. The free plan opens the first 5 categories and shows 5 prompts in each, following the sort you choose, so Most Popular gives free users the 5 most used. Premium opens all 12 categories and their full catalogs.
- Marketing: ad copy, campaign briefs, brand positioning, audience research, and competitive analysis.
- Personal Development: goal setting, habit tracking, reflection exercises, career planning, and learning frameworks.
- Sales: outreach emails, objection handling, pitch decks, follow-up sequences, and call scripts.
- Customer Service: support responses, escalation scripts, FAQ drafts, refund handling, and feedback requests.
- SEO: keyword research, meta descriptions, content briefs, internal linking, and on-page optimization.
- Engineering: system design, technical documentation, architecture decisions, and code review briefs.
- Coding: debugging, refactoring, unit tests, and boilerplate across programming languages.
- Education: lesson planning, quizzes, concept explanations, and study guides.
- Finance: financial analysis frameworks, investment research, budget planning, and report drafting.
- Creative: brainstorming, ideation, and creative concept development.
- Writing: drafting, editing, tone adjustment, headlines, and long-form structure.
- Business: strategic planning, executive summaries, project scoping, and business cases.
Save Your Own Prompts with {{Variables}}
Your own prompts live in Manage Prompts, separate from the expert library:
- Expert Prompt Library: the catalog above, opened with the Prompt Library button inside Manage Prompts.
- Your saved prompts: prompts you write or save from the library, called up by typing // in the message box. On a team plan, shared team prompts appear in the same list.
How {{variables}} work
Wrap any changing detail in double curly braces, for example: "Write a {{format}} about {{topic}} in a {{tone}} tone for a {{audience}} audience." When you pick that prompt from the // list, an Insert Dynamic Value window opens with one field per variable. Fill them in, or leave a field blank to keep the placeholder, and click Insert.
Free and Premium limits for your own prompts
The free plan saves 2 prompts and Premium saves unlimited prompts. Saved prompts sync through your AI Toolbox account, so they follow you to another computer; a setting can keep your personal library on one device only if you prefer. For a step-by-step guide to building your own set, see save reusable ChatGPT prompts.
How to Open the Prompt Library in ChatGPT
- Install AI Toolbox from the Chrome Web Store (free; Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera and Arc).
- Open chatgpt.com.
- Click the floating AI Toolbox button on the page and choose Manage Prompts, or open the AI Toolbox command palette and pick it there.
- Click Prompt Library at the top of the Manage Prompts window to browse the categories.
- Click Use Prompt on any card to add it to the message box, then edit and send.
Faster for your own prompts: type // in the ChatGPT message box to open your saved prompts and pick one. The box's placeholder lists the related triggers: // for prompts, .. for prompt chains and @@ for context. Library prompts show up in the // list once you have clicked Save Prompt on them.
Who Gets the Most Out of It
Marketers and SEO professionals
Start from the Marketing and SEO categories for campaign briefs, keyword research and ad copy, then save the versions that work as your own prompts with {{client}} and {{product}} variables. Full use case: ChatGPT for Marketers.
Writers and content creators
Use the Writing category for tone guides, editing checklists and headline formulas, and keep a saved prompt with {{topic}}, {{tone}} and {{format}} fields for each recurring piece. Full use case: ChatGPT for Writers.
Researchers
Standard literature review and summarization prompts with {{study_subject}} and {{date_range}} fields keep the method consistent from one session to the next. Full use case: ChatGPT for Researchers.
Customer service teams
The Customer Service category covers support replies, refund scripts and FAQ drafts; team prompts with {{customer_tier}} and {{issue_type}} fields keep every agent on the same wording.
Developers
Save code review, documentation and debugging prompts with {{language}}, {{function_name}} and {{error_type}} fields. For multi-step work, prompt chains run up to 10 prompts in a row on ChatGPT, each one waiting for the previous reply (25 steps on Claude, Gemini and Grok). See automate ChatGPT prompt sequences.

Verdict
If you reuse prompts in ChatGPT every week, the Prompt Library is the quickest way to start from a tested prompt, and the // list is the quickest way to reuse your own. The free plan is enough to try both: 5 categories with 5 prompts each, 3 favorites and 2 saved prompts, with no card required. Premium opens all 12 categories with unlimited saved prompts and favorites.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ChatGPT have a built-in prompt library?
Not a personal one you can insert from while typing. ChatGPT has custom instructions, Projects, and skills packaged in plugins, but no searchable list of your own reusable prompts in the message box. AI Toolbox adds an expert library in 12 categories plus saved prompts you call up with //.
What is the AI Toolbox Prompt Library?
A catalog of expert-written prompts inside ChatGPT, organized in 12 categories: Marketing, Personal Development, Sales, Customer Service, SEO, Engineering, Coding, Education, Finance, Creative, Writing and Business. Click the floating AI Toolbox button on chatgpt.com (or use the AI Toolbox command palette), choose Manage Prompts, then click Prompt Library. To reuse your own saved prompts instead, type // in the message box.
What is the difference between the Prompt Library and saved prompts?
The Prompt Library is the expert catalog maintained by Infi Developments. Saved prompts are yours: you write them, or click Save Prompt on a library card, and call them up by typing //. Saved prompts can contain {{variables}}, which open an Insert Dynamic Value form when you use them. Free includes 5 library categories and 2 saved prompts; Premium includes all 12 categories and unlimited saved prompts.
Is the AI Toolbox Prompt Library free?
Partly. The free plan includes 5 of the 12 categories with 5 prompts each, 3 favorites and 2 saved prompts. Premium ($9.99/month or $99 lifetime per module) opens all 12 categories with unlimited favorites and saved prompts, with a 14-day money-back guarantee subject to the refund policy.
Which categories are free?
Marketing, Personal Development, Sales, Customer Service and SEO, with 5 prompts each. Engineering, Coding, Education, Finance, Creative, Writing and Business are Premium.
Does the Prompt Library work on Gemini, Claude and Grok?
Yes. The same library, with the same free and Premium limits, opens from AI Toolbox on Gemini, Claude and Grok. Premium is per module, so each platform's module is unlocked separately unless you have All Access. Use counts are shared across all four.
How is this different from Anthropic's prompting guides?
Anthropic's prompting documentation is a reference for writing better prompts for Claude, aimed at developers. The AI Toolbox Prompt Library is a tool inside the chat: you pick a prompt and it goes into the message box, and you can save your own prompts with {{variables}} for reuse.

Bottom Line
AI Toolbox (formerly ChatGPT Toolbox), a Chrome extension by Infi Developments with 40,000+ users and a 4.7/5 Chrome Web Store rating, adds two things ChatGPT lacks: an expert Prompt Library in 12 categories that inserts with one click, and your own saved prompts with {{variables}} that you call up by typing //. Free covers 5 categories, 3 favorites and 2 saved prompts; Premium covers all 12 categories with unlimited favorites and saved prompts.
