How to use the Prompt Library in ChatGPT

The Prompt Library is a set of ready-made prompts sorted into 12 categories, such as Marketing and Sales. Open Manage Prompts, click Prompt Library, pick a prompt, and click Use Prompt to put it in the ChatGPT message box. The free plan opens 5 categories with the first 5 prompts in each.

Step by step

  1. Open Manage Prompts

    Look at the bottom-right corner of ChatGPT. There is a round AI Toolbox button. Move your mouse over it and a few small round buttons fan out. Hold your mouse over each one to see its name, then click Manage Prompts.

    Another way: click the round button itself. A search box opens that says Search AI Toolbox features.... Type prompts and click Manage Prompts.

    You should see: A window called Manage Prompts with Prompts and Chains at the top.

  2. Click Prompt Library

    Make sure Prompts is picked at the top. Then click Prompt Library, next to Add Prompt.

    This button is the only way into the library, so remember where it is.

    You should see: A large window called Prompt Library with prompt cards and a Prompt of the Day card.

  3. Pick a category

    Near the top, next to the search box, there is a menu that starts on Marketing. Click it and choose a category. You can also type a word in the search box to its left.

    On the free plan, locked categories end with the word Premium in brackets.

    You should see: The cards change to prompts from the category you picked.

  4. Click a prompt to read it

    Click any card. The full prompt shows on the right side of the window.

    You should see: The prompt's name, its full text, and two buttons: Use Prompt and Save Prompt.

  5. Click Use Prompt

    Click Use Prompt. The library closes and the prompt goes into the ChatGPT message box. If you had already typed something, the prompt goes below it.

    The prompt is not sent. Change any part you want, then send it.

    You should see: The message Prompt added to the message box and the prompt in the ChatGPT message box.

  6. Save a prompt to your own list (optional)

    To keep a prompt, click Save Prompt. A window asks Confirm Save Prompt. Click Save.

    The prompt now shows in Manage Prompts and in your // list, so you can use it later without opening the library.

    You should see: The message Prompt successfully saved.

    Saved library prompts count toward the 2 saved prompts on the free plan.

  7. Mark a favorite (optional)

    Click the heart on a card, or the Favorite button on the right side. Click it again to take it away.

    You should see: The message Added to favorites! and a filled heart on that card.

If something doesn't look right

I can't find the Prompt Library

It is inside Manage Prompts. Open Manage Prompts from the round button in the bottom-right corner and click Prompts at the top. The Prompt Library button does not show while Chains is picked.

Picking a category opens an upgrade window

Categories that end with the word Premium in brackets are locked on the free plan. The free plan opens Marketing, Personal Development, Sales, Customer Service and SEO. Pick one of those, or upgrade to Premium for all 12.

I only see 5 prompts and some blurred cards

The free plan shows the first 5 prompts in each open category. The blurred cards and the more prompts available bar show what Premium adds.

Save Prompt opens a Save unlimited prompts window

Saved library prompts count toward your 2 free saved prompts. Delete one in Manage Prompts to make room, or use Use Prompt instead, which has no limit on the prompts you can open.

The prompt went under my old text

Use Prompt keeps what is already in the message box and adds the prompt below it. Clear the message box first if you want only the library prompt.

Can I save a Prompt Library prompt to my own prompts?

Yes. Click the prompt, then click Save Prompt and confirm with Save. It then shows in Manage Prompts and in the double slash list in ChatGPT. On the AI Toolbox free plan, it counts toward your 2 saved prompts, so you may need to delete one first.

Where do my favorite prompts show up?

In ChatGPT, the AI Toolbox heart marks a Prompt Library prompt with a filled heart, so it stands out when you browse that category again. There is no separate favorites list. If you want a prompt one click away every time, save it with Save Prompt so it shows in your double slash list.
