How to use the Prompt Library in Gemini

Open the round AI Toolbox button and click Prompt Library. Choose a category, click a prompt to read it, then click Use Prompt to add it to Gemini's message box. Save Prompt keeps it with your saved prompts. The free plan opens the first 5 categories with 5 prompts in each. Premium opens every category and prompt.

Step by step

  1. Open the Prompt Library

    Go to gemini.google.com. Click the round AI Toolbox button in the bottom-right corner of the page. A window called AI Toolbox opens with a list of features.

    Click Prompt Library.

    You should see: A window called Prompt Library with a Prompt of the Day and a grid of prompt cards.

  2. Choose a category

    Click the category menu at the top and pick a topic.

    On the free plan, categories marked (Premium) are locked. Choosing one opens an upgrade window.

    You should see: Prompt cards for that category.

  3. Search or sort the prompts

    Type a word in the search box to find prompts about it. Use the sort menu to show Newest or Most Popular first.

    You should see: The cards change to match your search or sort.

  4. Read a prompt

    Click a card. The full prompt shows on the right side of the window.

    You should see: The prompt's full text with Use Prompt, Save Prompt and Copy buttons.

  5. Use the prompt

    Click Use Prompt. The window closes and the prompt appears in Gemini's message box. If you had already typed something, the prompt is added after it.

    Change anything you like, then press Enter to send.

    You should see: The prompt's text in Gemini's message box.

  6. Save it for later (optional)

    Click Save Prompt to keep it with your saved prompts, so you can add it any time by typing //.

    Click Favorite to mark prompts you like.

    You should see: The message Prompt successfully saved.

If something doesn't look right

I don't see Prompt Library in the AI Toolbox window

The prompt tools may be turned off. Open the AI Toolbox button, click Settings, and under Prompts turn on Prompt tools.

Some prompts are blurred or a category is locked

The free plan opens the first 5 categories and 5 prompts in each. The blurred cards and the categories marked (Premium) open with Premium.

Save Prompt opened an upgrade window

Saved prompts from the library count toward your 2 free saved prompts. Delete one in Manage Prompts to make room, or upgrade to Premium for an unlimited number.

I clicked Use Prompt but the message box is empty

If AI Toolbox cannot find the message box, it copies the prompt instead. Click in Gemini's message box and paste with Cmd+V on Mac or Ctrl+V on Windows.
