How to Delete Your Grok (xAI) Account in 2026, and What Happens Next
To delete your Grok account, sign in at accounts.x.ai and follow the deletion steps there, or open grok.com, then Settings, Data Controls, and select Delete next to Delete Account. xAI says you can restore the account within 30 days by logging in again and confirming restoration, and its privacy policy says your data is deleted within 30 days unless it must be kept for legal, compliance, or safety reasons. What deleting a Grok account actually removes
Your Grok account is an xAI account, and deleting it closes that account for every xAI product it covers. The Export Account Data option in grok.com's settings describes the account as holding "everything stored in all xAI products", which gives a sense of how much goes with it: your Grok conversations, projects, uploaded files and Imagine creations are all tied to the same login.
Grok on grok.com and in the Grok apps: your history goes with the account.
The xAI API: xAI's FAQ says that if you use the same account for the API, your API access is removed as well. API credits are non-refundable.
Your data on xAI's systems: the privacy policy says that if you delete your account, xAI deletes the data within 30 days unless it must be retained for legal, compliance, or safety purposes.
What it does not cover is anything run by X. If you sign in to Grok with your X account, X is a separate sign-in method linked to your xAI account, and xAI's FAQ says X Premium refunds are handled by X, not xAI. Closing or changing your X account is done in X's own settings, not at accounts.x.ai.
Before you delete: save your Grok conversations
Treat deletion as final and keep a copy of anything you might want later. You have two ways to do it.
The whole account, natively. On grok.com, open Settings, then Data Controls, and select Export next to Export Account Data. grok.com says this downloads all data associated with your account.
Chosen chats, as readable files. The native export is one account-wide archive. If the Manage Subscription button on grok.com does not open, xAI's FAQ says ad blockers or other extensions can block it, and suggests an incognito window or another browser.
How to delete your Grok account
There are two routes to the same result.
Route 1: accounts.x.ai
Go to accounts.x.ai and sign in with the method you use for Grok.
Follow the account deletion steps on that page. xAI's FAQ points here for account deletion.
Route 2: grok.com settings
Open grok.com and sign in.
Open your profile menu, select Settings, then Data Controls under Data & Information.
Scroll to Delete Account, which grok.com describes as permanently deleting your account and associated data, and select Delete.
Sign in with the same method you always use. xAI's FAQ notes that a subscription is tied to the account you bought it with and may not appear under a different login, such as Apple, Google or X. Make sure you are in the account that holds your history before you delete.
