How to tell AI Toolbox items apart in ChatGPT's menus

AI Toolbox adds a few items to ChatGPT's own menus, such as Move to Folder, Export and Tag. Each one ends with a small toolbox mark, the same icon as the round AI Toolbox button. If a row has the mark, it comes from AI Toolbox. If it has none, it is ChatGPT's own. There is nothing to set up.

Step by step

  1. Step 1: Open a chat's menu in the sidebar

On chatgpt.com, move your mouse over a chat in the list on the left. Click the three dots that appear next to it.

Look at the end of each row. Move to Folder, Carry this chat forward, Export, Pin to AI Toolbox and Tag end with a small toolbox mark. Those come from AI Toolbox.

You should see: Five rows with the mark at the top of the menu. The rows below them, such as Share, Rename and Archive, are ChatGPT's own.

Hold your mouse over a marked row and a small label says AI Toolbox.

  2. Step 2: Check the menu at the top of a chat

Open a chat and click the three dots at the top right, next to Share. Move to Folder, Export, Pin to AI Toolbox and Tag carry the same mark.

You should see: Four marked rows above ChatGPT's own options. If the chat is pinned in AI Toolbox, the pin row says Unpin from AI Toolbox.

  3. Step 3: Find the mark in a project's menu

Move your mouse over a project in the list on the left and click its three dots. Export project comes from AI Toolbox, so it ends with the mark too.

You should see: Export project with the mark, above ChatGPT's own project options.

That's it. You have finished every tutorial in this section.

If something doesn't look right

I do not see the mark

Refresh the ChatGPT page so the latest AI Toolbox loads, then open the menu again. The mark is only on items AI Toolbox adds to ChatGPT's menus. Windows and lists that belong to AI Toolbox itself, such as the folder list, have no mark, because everything in them is ours.

A menu has two items with almost the same name

Look at the end of each row. The one with the toolbox mark is from AI Toolbox, and the one without it is ChatGPT's own. Both work. Pick the one you mean: ours saves to AI Toolbox, and ChatGPT's works inside ChatGPT.

Free and Premium

The mark is on for everyone, on every plan. There is nothing to set up or turn on.

  • Shown on every item AI Toolbox adds to ChatGPT's own menus.
  • Not shown in AI Toolbox's own windows and lists, where everything is ours.
  • The mark takes the text color of the menu, so it follows light and dark mode.

Questions people ask

What is the small toolbox icon in my ChatGPT menu?

It is the AI Toolbox mark. AI Toolbox adds a few items to ChatGPT's own menus, and each of them ends with this small toolbox icon. It shows that the item comes from the AI Toolbox extension and not from ChatGPT. Items without the icon are ChatGPT's own.

Which ChatGPT menu items come from AI Toolbox?

The ones with the small toolbox mark at the end of the row. On ChatGPT that is Move to Folder, Export and Tag. Everything else in those menus belongs to ChatGPT and works exactly as it did before you installed AI Toolbox.

Can I turn the AI Toolbox mark off?

No. The mark is part of every AI Toolbox menu item and has no setting. It is small and faded, about the size of a letter, and it takes the same color as the text, so it does not crowd the menu. It also follows light and dark mode.

Does the mark change what a menu item does?

No. The mark only tells you where the item comes from. Clicking the item does exactly what it did before, and the rows are the same height as the site's own. Hold your mouse over a marked row and a small label says AI Toolbox.

Is Move to Folder the same as ChatGPT's Move to project?

No. Move to project is ChatGPT's own and moves the chat into a ChatGPT project. Move to Folder, with the toolbox mark, comes from AI Toolbox and files the chat in your AI Toolbox folders without moving it in ChatGPT. You can use both on the same chat.

Don't have AI Toolbox yet?

It's free to install on Chrome, Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers, and works on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok.
