How to tell AI Toolbox items apart in Gemini's menus
AI Toolbox adds a few items to Gemini's own menus, such as Add to Folder, Export Conversation and Bookmarks. Each one ends with a small toolbox mark, the same icon as the round AI Toolbox button. If a row has the mark, it comes from AI Toolbox. If it has none, it is Gemini's own. There is nothing to set up.
Step by step
Step 1: Open the menu at the top right of a chat
Open a chat on gemini.google.com and click the three dots at the top right of the page.
Add to Folder, Export Conversation and Bookmarks end with the small toolbox mark. They come from AI Toolbox. Gemini's own Download PDF and Export to Docs have no mark, so you can tell the exports apart.
You should see: Three marked rows at the top of the menu, above Gemini's own options.
Hold your mouse over a marked row and a small label says AI Toolbox.
Step 2: Open a chat's menu in the sidebar
Move your mouse over a chat in the list on the left and click the three dots next to it. Add to Folder and Carry this chat forward carry the same mark.
You should see: Two marked rows. Share conversation, Pin, Rename and Delete are Gemini's own.
That's it. You have finished every tutorial in this section.
If something doesn't look right
I do not see the mark
Refresh the Gemini page so the latest AI Toolbox loads, then open the menu again. The mark is only on items AI Toolbox adds to Gemini's menus. Windows and lists that belong to AI Toolbox itself, such as the folder list, have no mark, because everything in them is ours.
A menu has two items with almost the same name
Look at the end of each row. The one with the toolbox mark is from AI Toolbox, and the one without it is Gemini's own. Both work. Pick the one you mean: ours saves to AI Toolbox, and Gemini's works inside Gemini.
Free and Premium
The mark is on for everyone, on every plan. There is nothing to set up or turn on.
- Shown on every item AI Toolbox adds to Gemini's own menus.
- Not shown in AI Toolbox's own windows and lists, where everything is ours.
- The mark takes the text color of the menu, so it follows light and dark mode.
Questions people ask
What is the small toolbox icon in my Gemini menu?
It is the AI Toolbox mark. AI Toolbox adds a few items to Gemini's own menus, and each of them ends with this small toolbox icon. It shows that the item comes from the AI Toolbox extension and not from Gemini. Items without the icon are Gemini's own.
Which Gemini menu items come from AI Toolbox?
The ones with the small toolbox mark at the end of the row. On Gemini that is Add to Folder, Export Conversation and Bookmarks. Everything else in those menus belongs to Gemini and works exactly as it did before you installed AI Toolbox.
Can I turn the AI Toolbox mark off?
No. The mark is part of every AI Toolbox menu item and has no setting. It is small and faded, about the size of a letter, and it takes the same color as the text, so it does not crowd the menu. It also follows light and dark mode.
Does the mark change what a menu item does?
No. The mark only tells you where the item comes from. Clicking the item does exactly what it did before, and the rows are the same height as the site's own. Hold your mouse over a marked row and a small label says AI Toolbox.
Why are there two export options in Gemini's menu?
Gemini has its own Download PDF and Export to Docs. Export Conversation, with the toolbox mark, comes from AI Toolbox. It saves the chat as a Text file for free, and Premium adds Markdown, JSON and PDF. Use the one that fits: Gemini's goes to a PDF or Google Docs.
