How to see how much of your Gemini limit you have used
AI Toolbox adds a thin bar under Gemini's message box. It shows how much of your Gemini usage limit you have used, which limit it is (Current usage or Weekly limit), and when it resets. The numbers come from Gemini itself and update about once a minute. It is free for everyone and needs no setup.
Step by step
Step 1: Open Gemini
Go to gemini.google.com and open a new chat or any existing chat.
You should see: Gemini's message box at the bottom of the page.
Step 2: Look under the message box
Right under the message box is a thin bar with a short line of text, for example 12% · Current usage · resets 3:00 PM.
You should see: The bar and the line of text. The bar fills up as you use Gemini.
Step 3: Read the three parts
The first part is how much you have used. The middle part names the limit: Current usage is the short limit and Weekly limit is the weekly one. The last part says when it resets.
The badge shows whichever limit is closer to full.
You should see: A percent, the name of the limit, and a time or date.
Step 4: Watch the color
The bar changes color as it fills, so you notice early when you are close to the limit.
You should see: A calm color when there is plenty left, and a warning color near the top.
Step 5: Check Gemini's own page for more detail (optional)
For the full details, click the gear next to your name at the bottom left of Gemini, then Usage limits. That is Gemini's own page, and the badge uses the same figures.
You should see: Gemini's usage page with the same percent.
That's it. You have finished every tutorial in this section.
If something doesn't look right
I don't see the bar under the message box
The badge appears once Gemini sends back your usage figures, which can take a few seconds after the page opens. Wait a moment, or refresh the page. It only shows when you are signed in to Gemini.
The number is different from Gemini's usage page
The badge checks Gemini's figures about once a minute, so it can be a minute behind. Wait a minute or refresh the page and the two will match.
Is this an AI Toolbox limit?
No. The badge only shows Gemini's own usage limit for your Google account. AI Toolbox does not limit how much you chat with Gemini.
Free and Premium
The usage badge is free for everyone. It shows Gemini's own limits, not an AI Toolbox limit.
- Free for everyone, with no setup.
- Shows Gemini's own figures for your account, updated about once a minute.
- Shows one limit at a time: the one closest to full.
What Gemini does on its own
Gemini has a usage limits page in its settings that shows your current usage, and it tells you when you are close to a limit. Google says the limit refreshes every 5 hours until you reach a weekly limit.
AI Toolbox puts that same figure under the message box, so you can see it while you chat without opening settings.

Questions people ask
How do I check my Gemini usage limit?
Gemini shows your usage on a page in its settings. With the free AI Toolbox extension, you also see it under the message box as a thin bar with the percent used, the name of the limit and when it resets, so you can check it while you chat.
What does Current usage mean on the Gemini badge?
Current usage is Gemini's short usage limit, the one that refreshes every few hours. Weekly limit is the larger limit that resets once a week. The AI Toolbox badge under the message box names whichever of the two is closer to full.
Is the Gemini usage badge free?
Yes. The AI Toolbox usage badge is free for everyone and turns on by itself when you use Gemini. It reads the same usage figures Gemini shows on its own usage page, so it costs nothing extra and needs no setup.
Does AI Toolbox limit my Gemini messages?
No. AI Toolbox never limits how much you chat with Gemini. The usage badge only shows Gemini's own limit for your Google account, so you can see how close you are before Gemini asks you to wait for a reset.
How often does the Gemini usage badge update?
The AI Toolbox usage badge asks Gemini for your latest usage about once a minute while the page is open. If you have just sent many messages, wait a minute or refresh the page to see the newest figure and reset time.
