How AI Toolbox works on grok.com and on Grok inside X

AI Toolbox works in two places: grok.com and the Grok page inside X at x.com/i/grok. On both, a round button in the bottom-right corner opens the AI Toolbox list of features. Only grok.com shows My Folders on the left side. On X, you open folders from Manage Folders in that list instead.

Step by step

  1. Open Grok on grok.com or on X

    AI Toolbox works in two places. The first is grok.com. The second is the Grok page inside X, at x.com/i/grok. Open either one and sign in.

    The first time, a short card at the top of the page says AI Toolbox is now active on Grok. Click See the tutorials on it to open these guides, or let it go away on its own.

    You should see: A round button in the bottom-right corner, with a small label above it that names your AI Toolbox plan, such as FREE.

    You can move the round button to any spot on the page: hold the mouse button down on it, move it and let go. A short click does not move it.

  2. Click the round button to see every feature

    Click the round button in the bottom-right corner. A window called AI Toolbox opens with one row per feature. Click a row to open that feature. The Tutorials row near the bottom opens these guides.

    To close the window, click the X in its top-right corner, click outside it, or press Esc.

    You should see: A list that starts with Search History, Manage Chats, Export this chat and Manage Folders.

  3. Know which pages show the button

    On grok.com, the button shows on the main page and inside any chat. It does not show on the image page (Imagine), your files or settings.

    On X, the button shows only on the Grok page at x.com/i/grok. It does not show on your home timeline, profiles or posts. Go back to x.com/i/grok and it comes back.

    You should see: The round button on your Grok chat page, and no button on the rest of X.

  4. On grok.com, use the folder list and the chat menu

    On grok.com, the left side of the page lists your chats (grok.com calls it History). AI Toolbox adds My Folders just above that list.

    Move your mouse over a chat in that list and click the three dots that appear. AI Toolbox adds three items to that menu: Carry this chat forward, Export and Smart Tags.

    You should see: A My Folders heading above your History list, and the three extra items in a chat's menu.

  5. On X, open folders from the AI Toolbox list

    Grok on X has no chat list on the left side, so there is no My Folders list there. Click the round button and then Manage Folders to see and edit your folders.

    To put chats in a folder on X, open the folder, click Add, then Add Chats. You can also tick chats in Search History, Manage Chats or Smart Tags and click Add to Folder.

    You should see: A window called Manage Folders with your folders in it.

  6. Know what is shared between the two sites

    Your folders, saved prompts, chains, bookmarks and plan belong to your X account, so they are the same on both sites.

    Your chats are not shared. grok.com and X keep separate chat lists, so Search History, Manage Chats, Smart Tags and @@ only show chats from the site you are on. A chat you put in a folder on grok.com opens from that folder on grok.com.

    You should see: The first time you open Search History on a site, the message Syncing chat history, please wait... while AI Toolbox reads that site's chats.

If something doesn't look right

I don't see the round AI Toolbox button

Check the address first. On X, the button only shows at x.com/i/grok, not on your timeline. On grok.com, it shows on the main page and in chats. If you moved the button, look where you left it. If you are on the right page, refresh it. If it is still missing, open the AI Toolbox icon in your browser toolbar and check that Grok is switched on.

My grok.com chats don't show up in search on X

That is expected. grok.com and X keep separate chat lists, and AI Toolbox reads each one on its own site. Search your grok.com chats on grok.com and your X chats on x.com/i/grok.

A folder on X shows (deleted chat)

That chat was most likely filed on grok.com. Folders are shared between the two sites, but each chat only opens on the site where it lives. Open the same folder on grok.com to see and open that chat. Nothing was deleted.

Grok works on this computer but not on my other one

Turning on Grok is saved per browser, not per account. On the second computer, open the AI Toolbox icon in the toolbar, switch Grok on and click Allow when Chrome asks. Your folders, prompts and bookmarks then load from your X account.

Free and Premium

Using AI Toolbox on both grok.com and X is free. Free plan limits are counted once for your X account, not once per site. Premium is linked to your X account and works on both sites.

  • The round button shows on grok.com's main page and chats, and on x.com/i/grok only.
  • My Folders on the left side, and Carry this chat forward, Export and Smart Tags in the chat menu, are grok.com only.
  • Chat lists are separate per site. Folders, prompts, chains, bookmarks and your plan follow your X account on both.

What Grok does on its own

Grok is made by xAI, and it comes in two versions: the grok.com website and apps, and Grok inside X. xAI's FAQ notes that while xAI provides Grok in X, it does not run X's own service. Each version keeps its own list of chats.

AI Toolbox adds the same tools to both versions, such as search, folders, export and saved prompts. Things you set up, like folders and prompts, are tied to your X account, so they are waiting for you on either site.

Does AI Toolbox work on Grok inside X?

Yes. AI Toolbox works on the Grok page inside X at x.com/i/grok and on grok.com. On X, the round AI Toolbox button only appears on that Grok page, not on your timeline or profiles, so it never gets in the way of normal X use. Search, export, folders, prompts and bookmarks all work there.

Why is there no folder list on the left side of Grok on X?

Grok on X has no chat list on the left side for AI Toolbox to add folders to. Your folders still work there: click the round AI Toolbox button, then Manage Folders. On grok.com, AI Toolbox shows the same folders as a My Folders list above your History.

Are grok.com and X chats the same in AI Toolbox?
