How to organize Grok chats into folders

Step by step

   Step 1: Open Manage Folders

   On grok.com or on x.com/i/grok, click the round button in the bottom-right corner. In the AI Toolbox list, click Manage Folders.

   You should see: A window called Manage Folders. If you have no folders yet, it says This folder is empty.

   Step 2: Create your first folder

   Click the Add button, then click Add Folder. A box appears that says New folder name.

   Type a name, for example Work, and click Add Folder again (or press Enter).

   You should see: Your new folder in the list. On the free plan, a bar also shows how many of your 2 folders you have used.

   On grok.com you can also create a folder right on the left side of the page: click the + next to My Folders. Folder names can be up to 100 characters long.

   Step 3: Open the folder

   Click the folder's name. The window now shows what is inside it, and its name appears in the path at the top.

   You should see: No chats in this folder yet. and buttons such as Add, Move folder and Rename folder.

   Step 4: Add chats to the folder

   Inside the folder, click Add, then Add Chats. A list of your chats appears.

   Type part of a title in the Search chat titles box to find a chat faster. Click each chat you want, so a check mark appears. Then click Add selected at the bottom.

   You should see: The message Chats added to folder and your chats listed under Chats in this folder.

   A chat can be in more than one folder. The list shows a small note when a chat is already in another folder.

   Step 5: Make a subfolder inside it (optional)

   While you are inside a folder, click Add, then Add subfolder. Type a name and click Add Folder.

   Subfolders work like folders, and they never count toward the free limit.

   You should see: Your subfolder under Subfolders inside the folder.

   Step 6: Open a chat from a folder

   Click any chat inside a folder. It opens in a new tab.

   On grok.com, you can also open chats from My Folders on the left side of the page. Click a folder to open it, then click a chat.

   You should see: The chat opens in Grok.

   Inside a folder, the Sort by menu sets the order of the chats: Recent puts the newest first, and A-Z or Z-A sorts them by name. Manual only changes the order of folders, so chats stay newest first.

   Step 7: Rename, remove or delete

   Inside a folder, click Rename folder to change its name. To take chats out, or to delete a subfolder, tick their boxes and click Remove, then Remove again to confirm.

   To delete a top-level folder, go back to the first screen (click Manage Folders in the path at the top), tick the folder and click Remove. Removing never deletes the chats from Grok.

   You should see: The message Items successfully removed.
