How to rename, export and delete Grok chats in one list
Click the round button in the bottom-right corner, then Manage Chats. You see every Grok chat on this site in one list. Each chat has buttons to export, rename and delete it. Tick several chats to put them in a folder with Add to Folder, which is free. The free plan deletes up to 5 ticked chats at a time. Premium removes that limit and exports many chats at once.
Step by step
Step 1: Open Manage Chats
On grok.com or on x.com/i/grok, click the round button in the bottom-right corner. In the AI Toolbox list, click Manage Chats.
You should see: A window called Manage Chats with all your chats, newest first, and a count such as 120 Chats.
Step 2: Find a chat
Type part of a chat's title in the Filter chats box at the top. The list shrinks as you type.
You should see: Only the chats whose titles match your words.
Step 3: Rename a chat
On the right of a chat, click the pencil button (it says Rename when you point at it). A small box from your browser says Rename conversation.
Type the new name and click OK. The chat is renamed in Grok too.
You should see: The message Renamed and the new title in the list.
Step 4: Export or delete one chat
Click the download button next to a chat to export it. The Export Conversation window opens, where Text is free.
Click the trash button to delete a chat. Your browser asks Delete this chat? This cannot be undone. Click OK. Deleting removes the chat from Grok for good.
You should see: For a delete, the message Chats successfully deleted!
Step 5: Put many chats in a folder
Tick the box next to each chat you want. A bar appears at the top of the list. Click Add to Folder.
In the window that opens, first choose at the top: Add to folder (the chat also stays in its other folders) or Move to folder (it leaves its other folders). Then click a folder. Clicking a folder files the chats right away.
You should see: The message Chats added to folder or Chats moved to folder.
If you have no folders yet, Manage Folders opens so you can create one first.
Step 6: Export or delete many chats
With chats ticked, click Export to save them all as one ZIP file, or Delete to remove them from Grok. Delete asks you to confirm first.
On the free plan, Delete works on up to 5 chats at a time. If you tick more, AI Toolbox keeps the first 5 you ticked and says so. Export works on one ticked chat, as Text. Premium removes these limits.
Tick the box at the far left of the bar to select all chats in the list.
You should see: For an export, a window called Export Chats where you pick the format.
That's it. You have finished every tutorial in this section.
If something doesn't look right
Export or Delete in the bar opens an upgrade window
On the free plan, Export in the bar works on one ticked chat, as Text, and Delete works on up to 5 chats at a time. Exporting more chats or picking another format is Premium. Add to Folder in the bar stays free.
A chat I just made is missing from the list
Open Settings from the AI Toolbox list and click Refresh history under Data. Then open Manage Chats again. Also check that you are on the right site, since grok.com and X keep separate chat lists.
I deleted a chat by mistake
Deleting in Manage Chats deletes the chat in Grok itself, and AI Toolbox cannot bring it back. Before deleting chats you might need, export them first.
Can I drag chats into a folder from this list?
No. Tick the chats and click Add to Folder in the bar at the top, as in step 5.
Free and Premium
Opening the list, filtering it, renaming, exporting one chat as Text, deleting up to 5 chats at a time and filing chats with Add to Folder are free. Exporting more than one chat at once, other formats and deleting more than 5 at a time are Premium.
- Free: filter, rename, export one chat as Text, delete up to 5 chats at a time, and file many chats with Add to Folder.
- Premium: Export for many chats at once as one ZIP file, Delete with no limit, and every export format.
- Shows the chats of the site you are on: grok.com and X each have their own list.
What Grok does on its own
On grok.com, xAI's FAQ says you delete a chat from the history page with the trash button next to it, or delete all chats at once in Settings. Grok on X also lets you delete your whole history at once.
AI Toolbox adds a middle ground: pick exactly the chats you want, then rename, export, file or delete them together.
