Step 1: Open Manage Chats
Open claude.ai on a new chat or an open chat. In the bottom-right corner of the page there is a round AI Toolbox button. Click it. A list of features opens. Click Manage Chats.
You should see: A window called Manage Chats with all your chats, newest first.
Step 2: Find the chats you want
Type part of a chat's title in the search box at the top to shorten the list.
You should see: Only the chats whose titles match.
Step 3: Tick the chats
Click the box next to each chat you want. To take every chat in the list, tick Select all. Your choices stay ticked even when you change the search.
You should see: A count above the list, for example 12 selected.
Step 4: Pick a file format
At the bottom of the window, choose TXT, Markdown, JSON or PDF. TXT is picked at the start, and it is the free format.
You should see: A dot next to the format you picked.
Step 5: Export the chats
Click Export. A progress bar shows how far along it is. For very large exports you can click Stop and keep what is done.
On the free plan, tick just one chat and keep TXT. It downloads as one Text file.
You should see: The words Export complete and a ZIP file in your Downloads folder with one file per chat. A single free export is one Text file.
Step 6: Or delete the chats
Click Delete. A bar asks Permanently delete the selected conversations? This cannot be undone. Click Delete again to confirm, or Cancel to go back.
Deleted chats are removed from Claude itself, so export anything you want to keep first.
The free plan deletes up to 5 chats at a time. If you ticked more, AI Toolbox keeps the first 5 you ticked and says Free plan allows 5 chats per action. Upgrade for unlimited.
You should see: A line that says Deleted with the number of chats removed.

If something doesn't look right
An upgrade window opened when I clicked Export
Exporting more than one chat, or picking Markdown, JSON or PDF, is Premium. Click Maybe later and the Manage Chats window is still there with your choices ticked. On the free plan, tick one chat, keep TXT and click Export.
It says the free plan allows 5 chats per action
The free plan deletes up to 5 chats at a time, so AI Toolbox kept the first 5 you ticked. Delete those, then tick the next ones and delete again. Premium deletes any number at once.
The Export and Delete buttons are grey
They turn on once at least one chat is ticked. Tick a box next to a chat or tick Select all.
A chat I just made is missing from the list
AI Toolbox checks Claude for new chats every few minutes. Close the window, wait a moment and open it again. If chats still look wrong, go to Settings, then Data & Storage, and click Clear Cache & Re-sync.
Can I archive or file chats from here?
No. Manage Chats on Claude exports and deletes. To put many chats into a folder, tick them in Search History or Smart Tags and click Add to Folder, which is free.

What Claude does on its own
Claude can delete many chats at once. In your chat list on the web, click Select, tick the chats or use Select all, and delete them. Claude also renames and deletes single chats from the menu next to each chat.
