How to search your Grok chat history

AI Toolbox searches the words inside every Grok chat, not just the titles. Click the round button in the bottom-right corner, then Search History, and type a word. Each result shows the matching messages, and clicking one opens that chat right at the message. The free plan shows the first 5 matching chats. Premium shows every match.

Step by step

  1. Open the AI Toolbox list

    On grok.com or on x.com/i/grok, click the round button in the bottom-right corner of the page.

    You should see: A window called AI Toolbox with a list of features.

  2. Open Search History

    Click Search History, the first row. A search window opens.

    The first time on each site, AI Toolbox needs a moment to read your chats. You can type right away. Titles are ready first, and message text follows.

    You should see: A box that says Search your Grok history. On a first visit, you may also see Syncing chat history, please wait...

  3. Type a word or phrase

    Type something you remember from the chat, for example a name or a topic. Results appear as you type. Press Enter to search right away.

    When the box is empty, your last few searches show as small buttons under it, so you can run them again with one click.

    You should see: A list of chats. Each one shows its title, its date and the messages that contain your words, with the words highlighted.

  4. Open a result

    Click one of the matching messages. The chat opens in the same tab and scrolls to that message, which lights up for a moment. Click a chat's title to go to its first matching message.

    To open a chat in a new tab instead, hold Ctrl (Cmd on Mac) while you click. It opens at the top. Click the small arrow on the right of a result to hide or show its messages.

    You should see: The chat opens in Grok and scrolls to the matching message.

  5. See more results or narrow them down

    On the free plan, a box under the first 5 results says More results available! and tells you how many more chats match.

    Premium users can click Advanced search at the top to include or leave out words, search titles only, and pick a date range or who wrote the message.

    You should see: Every matching chat on Premium, or the first 5 and a count of the rest on the free plan.

  6. Act on several results at once (optional)

    Tick the box next to one or more results. A bar appears at the top of the list with Smart Tags, Add to Folder, Export and Delete.

    Add to Folder is free. On the free plan, Delete works on up to 5 chats at a time, and Export saves one chat as a Text file. Premium removes these limits.

    You should see: The bar shows how many chats are selected, for example 2 selected.

If something doesn't look right

Search finds nothing, but I know the chat exists

Check that you are on the right site. grok.com and X keep separate chat lists, so search on the site where you had the chat. If it is a very new chat, open Settings from the AI Toolbox list and click Refresh history under Data, then search again.

I only see 5 results

The free plan shows the first 5 matching chats. Type more exact words to bring the chat you want into those 5. Premium shows every match.

Clicking Advanced search opens an upgrade window

Advanced search is part of Premium. On the free plan, the normal search box already searches every word in your chats.

It says Syncing chat history, please wait...

AI Toolbox is reading your chats on this site for the first time. You can search titles right away. Message text becomes searchable as it loads, which can take a few minutes if you have many chats.

The free plan shows the first 5 matching chats for each search. From the results, it deletes up to 5 chats at a time and exports one chat as Text. Premium shows every match and adds Advanced search with more filters, plus exporting and deleting many results at once.
