How to save and reuse prompts in Claude
AI Toolbox keeps your favorite prompts ready to use in Claude. Open Manage Prompts from the round button, click New prompt and save a name and text. Then type // in Claude's message box and pick the prompt from the list. The free plan keeps 2 saved prompts. Premium keeps unlimited prompts.
Step by step
Step 1: Open Manage Prompts
Open claude.ai on a new chat or an open chat. In the bottom-right corner of the page there is a round AI Toolbox button. Click it. A list of features opens. Click Manage Prompts.
You should see: A window called Manage Prompts with the tip Type // in the chat box to insert a saved prompt.
Step 2: Start a new prompt
Click New prompt at the top of the window.
You should see: A form with a Name box and a Prompt box.
Step 3: Write and save it
In Name, type a short name you will recognize, for example Summarize. In Prompt, type the full text.
For parts that change each time, use double curly braces, for example {{topic}}. AI Toolbox asks you to fill them in when you use the prompt. Click Add.
You should see: Your prompt appears as a card in the list.
Step 4: Type // in Claude's message box
Close the window and click in the box where you type messages to Claude. Type two slashes: //. They must be at the start of the box or after a space.
You can keep typing to filter, for example //sum.
You should see: A small list of your saved prompts next to the message box.
Step 5: Pick a prompt
Click a prompt in the list. You can also move with the arrow keys and press Enter or Tab.
If the prompt has {{ }} parts, a small window with the prompt's name opens and asks for each one. Type each value and click Insert.
You should see: The prompt text in the message box in place of the //. Anything else you typed stays. Send it as usual.
Step 6: Edit, copy or delete a prompt
Open Manage Prompts again. Each card has Insert, Copy, Edit and Delete buttons. Insert adds the prompt to the message box, after anything you already typed.
You should see: The card updates, or disappears after Delete.
That's it. You have finished every tutorial in this section.
If something doesn't look right
Typing // does nothing
Type // at the very start of the message box or right after a space. It does not open in the middle of a word or a web address. If it still does nothing, open Settings, go to Prompts, and switch Prompt tools on.
An upgrade window opened when I clicked New prompt
The free plan keeps 2 saved prompts. Delete one you no longer use, or upgrade to Premium for unlimited prompts.
The list says No matching prompts
The text after // does not match any prompt name or text. Delete a few letters, or type // alone to see all prompts.
Manage Prompts is missing from the AI Toolbox list
It is hidden when Prompt tools is off. Open Settings, find Prompts, and switch Prompt tools on. Manage Prompts, Manage Chains and Prompt Library come back.

- The same prompts work on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok.
What Claude does on its own
Claude lets you set profile preferences that apply to every chat, and paid plans can give each project its own instructions. These shape how Claude answers without you repeating yourself.
Saved prompts in AI Toolbox are different: they are pieces of text you drop into a message only when you want them, such as a review checklist or an email template.

Questions people ask
Can you save prompts in Claude?
Yes, with AI Toolbox. Open Manage Prompts from the round button on claude.ai, click New prompt, and save a name and the text. Afterwards, type two slashes in Claude's message box and pick the prompt from the list. The free plan keeps 2 prompts, and Premium keeps unlimited prompts.
How does the // shortcut work in Claude?
When AI Toolbox is on, typing two slashes at the start of Claude's message box, or after a space, opens a list of your saved prompts. Keep typing to filter by name or text, then click one or press Enter. The prompt replaces the slashes, and the rest of your message stays.
Can I use variables in saved Claude prompts?
Yes. Put a word inside double curly braces, like {{topic}} or {{language}}, anywhere in an AI Toolbox saved prompt. When you insert the prompt in Claude, a small window asks you to fill in each value, and AI Toolbox places the finished text in the message box.
Are my saved prompts shared between ChatGPT and Claude?
Yes. AI Toolbox keeps one prompt library for all platforms, so a prompt saved on Claude also shows up in ChatGPT, Gemini and Grok. It syncs through your AI Toolbox account, unless you switch on Keep my Prompt Library on this device in Settings to keep it on one computer.
Is there a keyboard shortcut to open my Claude prompts?
Typing two slashes in the message box is the quick way. You can also give the browser command Open your prompts a key of your own at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. On Claude that shortcut opens AI Toolbox Manage Prompts. It has no key set until you choose one.
